Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios on Wednesday (July 26) confirmed that there is “no chance” he will play tennis till 33.
The 28-year-old has had a history of drinking and partying and he recently talked about the physical demands on the game.
He recently missed Wimbledon 2023 due to an injury and after missing out on the entire 2023 season where he only played one warmup game at Stuttgart Open after which he withdrew from the tournament.
The Australian tennis star was present at the Ultimate Tennis Shockdown in Los Angeles where he was asked if he would like to play for as long as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.
“No f****** chance. No way. Bro, there's no chance I'm playing until 33,” he replied. “Kyrgios playing until 33 is insane. I'm not playing until 33. Nah, I promise you, when I'm gone, you'll never see me again. The schedule is out of control. I'm getting old, I'm getting old. 28, yeah - but all the drinking and partying, I'm like 57.”
Last year after reaching Wimbledon 2022 final — where he lost to Djokovic in four sets —, Kyrgios admitted his “love” for drinking and partying. He even stated that he's known to drink up to 17 shots of alcohol in a night and “can’t walk for three days”.
Even though he lost the final, he admitted that he would retire if he won a Major singles title.
"100 per cent! It is a lot of training and a lot of work,” he said in January ahead of the Australian Open which he missed. "I just want to be able to eat whatever I want and drink what I want to drink, and just relax. It is a hard lifestyle.
"The dedication that these guys show day in and day out... I did a bit of that last year and had a great year to show that I am still one of the best. "I am going to try and do it this year, and hopefully I can do it, but it will be hard."
It must be noted that Kyrgios is one of the most talented players in tennis who would try something new every time he is in action but is known to have bad temperament. He has been in the news many times for reasons other than tennis.
